Does Disney think it can get away with this? First it was a picture of a nude woman in The Rescuers, then a penis on the cover of The Little Mermaid video. Now Disney is promoting its new film, The Tigger Movie, with a song about drugs and sex. Both the theatrical trailer and TV ads for this film feature the song "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind. I love this tune, but have you ever read the words? Go ahead and read them! You'll be outraged! The band's songwriter, Stephan Jenkins, says "It sounds bright and shiny for a reason. That's the way crystal meth feels. It's a sunny-disposition drug. It's supposed to sound attractive because the song is about the allure of a decadent lifestyle." Drummer Brad Hargreaves adds, "I think people are initially drawn to that song because of the sound of it. But I don't think it's really like they identify with it because not that many people have had any dealings with speed addicts." It's shameful that Disney would use a song about crank addiction to promote a movie FOR KIDS! Disney must be held accountable for what it's doing to our children! It seems to think it's better to apologize than to ask permission. How do I get myself back to The place where you said I want something else To get me through this Semi-charmed kind of life I want something else I'm not listening when you say Goodbye I believe in the sand beneath my toes The beach gives a feeling An earthy feeling I believe in the faith that grows And the four right chords can make me cry When I'm with you I feel like I could die And that would be all right All right When the plane came in She said she was crashing The velvet it rips In the city we tripped On the urge to feel alive But now I'm struggling to survive The days you were wearing That velvet dress You're the priestess, I must confess Those little red panties They pass the test Slide up around the belly Face down on the mattress One Now you hold me And we're broken Still its all that I want to do Feel myself with a head made of the ground I'm scared but I'm not coming down And I won't run for my life She's got her jaws just locked now in smile But nothing is all right All right I want something else To get me through this Semi charmed kind of life I want something else I'm not listening when you say Goodbye ... That's it. Fight the power. ..Scott Simpson
